Christmas Presents Part One - The Yarn

Christmas at our house is celebrated over several days. When our children were born my husband and I decided that we would stay in our own home Christmas Eve and Christmas Day and celebrate with extended family at another time. We continue to follow this tradition and this year the group in our home was quite small as oldest daughter and her husband are out of the country visiting his family for the first time in over two years and youngest daughter's boyfriend was on call and unable to join us. Nonetheless the three of us had a good time and my husband and I later traveled out of state to be with my extended family where we had Christmas again on December 29.

I received knitting gifts at each of my Christmas celebrations but I'm only writing about the yarn ones today. 2007 was an excellent year for yarn acquisition and when it was time to make my Christmas list I could not think of many things I needed. However, I did make a wish list at The Loopy Ewe with some yarns I admired and suggested to DH that he might buy me one or two of them. He is nothing but thorough and purchased the lot.

From left to right I now own:
1 skein of The Plucky Knitter laceweight in Tippi Blue, 1 skein of Scarlett Fleece Tubular x2 in Pacific, 1 skein of Dream in Color Smooshy in Lipstick Lava, 2 skeins of Lorna's Laces in Envy, 1 skein of Louet Gems in Charcoal and 1 skein of Louet Gems in Pewter. (The Louet Gems yarn was not on my wish list but sitting in my shopping cart from a prior visit when I was considering purchasing them for contrasting heels and toes.) Lesson learned - be careful what you ask for as you might receive it!

I now own an embarassing amount of sock yarn and DD#2 made me aware that at my current rate of 1 pair per month I was good for 3 years plus. 2008 has been declared the Year of the Sock and I am determined to end the year with far fewer skeins of sock yarn than I currently own. Goal is to knit at least one pair per month and purchase no more sock yarn this calendar year.
