Knitting for Charity

I did indeed finish all my knitting projects on the return trip from South Dakota and was left with one whole day of driving with nothing to do. We're leaving tomorrow on another vacation trip with our daughters and I won't make that mistake again. This time I'm packing two sock projects which should be more than sufficient for my time away.

My South Dakota trip knitting was primarily charity items. Why devote time to charity knitting when my queue is so long and my knitting time so limited? It gives me a great deal of satisfaction to produce hand made items for others, even those I don't know and will never see. One of my favorite childhood memories is my mother sewing clothing for a dozen or more Salvation Army dolls who arrived naked at our home in November and left with beautiful outfits so some child we didn't know would receive a Christmas gift. I also remember accompanying my parents to Red Cross blood drives where both were donors. Although my parents were never wealthy, they were always generous to those in need and I'm proud to be able to continue the tradition. So in addition to the Dulaan hats, I've also knit 3 preemie hats for a children's hospital and a second red scarf for the Red Scarf Project.

Preemie to Newborn Size
1 skein Lion Brand Microspun - Lavender
Size 4 Needles

Red Scarf #2 for 2008 Red Scarf Project

2 skeins Paton's Shetland Chunky Tweed - Deep Red

Size 10 Needles

Misti Alpaca Chunky Diagonal Rib Scarf Pattern

I'll have very limited internet access for the next 10 days so won't be posting again until mid-August.
